Holiday Packing

July 10, 20242 min read

It's the Holiday Season!

Summer in the UK seems to have forgotten to turn up this year so we're more than ready to head off to sunnier climes.

When you are escaping to warmer countries to relax and enjoy, take time out I thought you might like a packing list. Much of it might be common sense but it may also help you to focus in on packing only what you need and prevent you from over packing.

The key to great functional holiday packing is to create a holiday capsule collection before you go.

  • Choose a colour palette that allows you to mix and match pieces easily.

  • Take items that you can layer together to help with changing temperatures through the day

Packing List

For 2 weeks away in a warm climate you really only need:

  • 5 - 7 tops in a breathable fabric. Natural fibres are great for this, especially cotton, linen and bamboo

  • 3 - 5 pairs of shorts or capris

  • 2 -3  dresses and / or skirts

  • 2-3 swim wear

  • 1-2 wrap or cover up

  • 1 pair trainers - a must for any long walking or activity days

  • 1-2 sandals for day or evening

  • A wide brimmed hat and some sunglasses for protection against the sun

  • Jewellery, take a small collection of jewellery and nothing too valuable

  • A beach bag for carrying literally everything! A large stylish linen bag works well.

Packing advice

So you’ve planned your capsule wardrobe for the holiday, everything works with everything else. With 5 tops and 3 pairs of trousers, you have at least 15 outfits right there. Make the most of your space, if you are really committed, you could get away with hand luggage only even for a two week trip - try it!

  • Roll your clothes as you pack, it takes less space.

  • Pack things inside other things; never pack a shoe that's got space inside it!

  • Use packing cubes. It helps to keep everything organised

As in other areas of life, getting dressed on holiday shouldn't be difficult. Yes you might have to make compromises because you can’t take everything you own but, on the whole you should aim to wear everything you take with you. Plan well and everything you take will work together so you will have lots of options.

Obviously, it almost goes without saying, holidaying in the UK, take something for every season, every temperature and every possible outcome!

Have fun!
